Gum Blanket

Gum Blanket – Durable, Versatile, and Perfect for Outdoor Use

The Gum Blanket is a classic piece of gear with roots in the Civil War era. Originally used by soldiers for shelter construction and rain protection, this versatile blanket is crafted from heavyweight canvas rubberized on one side, making it an indispensable tool for modern-day outdoorsmen.

At the Appalachian Bushman School, we use the gum blanket primarily as a ground mat or moisture barrier when paired with a wool blanket. Its versatility extends to serving as an emergency lean-to, ground mat under a hammock, rain gear, or a kneeling mat during outdoor activities.

Why Choose Our Gum Blanket?

• Traditional Design: Produced to original Civil War specifications for authenticity and durability.

• Versatile Applications: Perfect for shelter building, rain protection, ground insulation, and more.

• Rugged Construction: Heavyweight canvas with a vinyl/rubber mixed coating ensures durability in tough conditions.
